Note no Spice Girls, Girls Aloud and or any of the other more recent girl bands. With the possible exception of Destiny's Child and maybe En Vogue, these have been singularly uninspired. But then I grew up in the golden age of girl groups and was spoilt by the choice available back in the 60s.
Do Labelle count under Patti Labelle or should they be in the list separately somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI considered that and concluded that they came under Patti LaBelle, but I accept that LaBelle was actually a different group.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to do duos next? Sam and Dave, Inez and Charlie Foxx, Rufus and Carla Thomas, Otis and Carla, the Simms Twins, Maurice and Mac, and (outside your field perhaps) the Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, and even Sonny and Cher come to mind.
ReplyDeleteA good idea. Maybe I will. And the Everly Brothers certainly are not outside my field. Thanks for correcting me on Papa's daughters's name.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this raises the question "What is a girl group?" - the Essex was Anita Humes and three male singers. Not sure who was in Bob B. Soxx apart from Darlene Love.
