Ponderosa Stomp photos, day 1
Here's the second batch of photos from my US road trip, featuring the acts that appeared on the first, fantastic day of the Ponderosa Stomp in New Orleans.
First act was a new name to me- Miriam and Nobody's Babies.
There was just one number from the next act, bluesman Guitar Lightning Lee.
Next came more blues from R L Boyce.
The Mama Mama Mamas backed the next few acts. Here's C C Adcock, followed by Steve Riley and Michael Hurtt.
They backed three swamp pop singers - Rod Bernard, Gene Terry and Tommy McLain.
Some brilliant soul followed, beginning with Betty Harris.
Next came one of the real stars of the show, Willie Hightower.
Followed by Brenda Holloway.
And 85 year old Mable John.
Folk rock singer/songwriter P F Sloan.
Some great rock and roll was provided by Freddy Cannon, backed by Los Straitjackets and Deke Dickerson.
Also backing Freddy, and many of the other acts, was New Orleans Woodie Armand St Martin.
Rockabilly was the focus of the remainder of the acts on day one, first Jim Oertling, then Joe Clay and finally Sun records drummer JM Van Eaton.
Finally, here's the man who made it all possible, Dr Ike.
